Dial-up
I'm at an office today where they don't have a digital phone system (thank god!) so I can access the internet...

... at dial up speeds.

I'm used to 1.5 mb DSL. And I'm running at 45 k.

I feel your pain.
I live in the country, way out in the country. I'm lucky if I get on at 28k...

OMG, you HAVE to go here. It's Census Bureau Stuff from your town (at least, the one listed in your LJ Info).

Of interest?

* 810 people, all rural (as you said, way out in the country).
* Only 2 unemployed people.
* Interesting that there is also only 2 minority people in the area (Native American). Coincidence? LOL Damn, I thought Washington was white!
* 4.2 people per square mile
* Topographic change over 197 square miles? 50 feet (ie - flat)
* 4 people making over $100K/year - mayor & big farmers
* 38 retail employees - small town center?
* 15 employed in education - that would cover 12 grades, plus the janitor, the cook, and the principal. (wait, it has both public & private schools listed later...)
* 241 males & 145 females over 16 in the county - pretty good odds!
* and why is it 2 again for the non-family households below poverty level?
* no one living in group homes or institutionalized - this is a good thing
* 3 people live in boats, RV's or vans?
* how can there be 37 people with graduate or professional degrees, without having more people at a higher income level?

Sorry, I just got carried away with the data. It's not often it's a small enough, homogenous enough population to be able to wildly extrapolate from.

Didn't mean to offend - just to have fun.
