Help me pick software!
I'm taking part in a Usability Study with Microsoft this Friday, and in return I get my pick of the following software titles. I'm not that familiar with some of them, and I'd like advice on which to get. Of course, I'd like to get them more expensive ones... but I really want something I might use.

Of course, I could get an expensive one, and sell it on eBay...

My choices are:

MICROSOFT USABILITY GRATUITY LIST (as of 03.18.05)

Why would anyone pick a $30 keyboard over a $500 piece of software?

If there's something you'd have fun with, or might like to try, but would never buy for yourself, go for it. Otherwise, get and sell the Visio.

Do not get Encarta (hello, internet). Do you have a mac? Would you use Virtual PC? I know people who like it, but it's pretty access-the-office, workaholic-y.

Can you keep using Student/Teacher Office, or will you eventually have to upgrade? In which case it might be worth upgrading for free.

I'm sure you'll do just fine picking the pretty, pretty prezzie :)

My boyfriend swears by streets and trips. He uses it all the time to get directions for people. Not very expensive though. Sell something expensive on Ebay and then use your winnings to buy streets and trips. :D

Re: OT question

Thanks so much.. I really appreciate it 'cuase it was very difficult to get in and I liked the place and people there. I think it could be cause I didn't post feedback but the reason is that I don't have internet at home and when I see the posts is usually days/weeks later.. and well, I hoped to able to reply in the future... or post but not everybody is allowed to post there anyway.. :)

Re: OT question

I checked - was told you needed to ask Nadine, the head of the group. She's simplybeing. You might want to post a question about it to her personal LJ, since she's the one in charge of letting people in or out.

Re: gratuity list

When you get there and complete the study, they will give you a sheet that you can take to the Usability Gratuity Center. They had everything listed on my list, and a few more things - so maybe you'll be surprised?

8 hours? I hope it's interesting & fun. They asked me a lot of music questions, but I ended up just looking at pictures and then doing a variety of exercises. Took about... 15-20 minutes, and I asked for the Office Professional 2003 - which should be shipping, as it was 6-8 weeks back-order.

Make sure to get your money's worth! But they say if you get more then $599 in stuff, you may have to declare it and pay for it on your income taxes, so be careful if that matters to you.

And smart way to find out more info! I didn't try google!
