Continuing travails...
Went out to the kitchen to see what was happening... and found out that the SO had peeled half a bag of potatoes... and put the skins down the disposal. All of them. At once, stuffed in.

Did I mention that our disposal is at least... 20 years old? Because the kitchen looks like it was remodelled in the early 80's, and all the other appliances are from that time. Dishwasher and all. And not used that much, really, since we've been here (6 years), because we go out to eat a lot.

So he stuffed them down there, turned it on... guess it ran for a few seconds, hiccuped... and stopped. Clogging up the only sink. At the very beginning of cooking Thanksgiving dinner for 15.

*headdesk* *headdesk*

I hate to wonder what else can go wrong... because we're off to a winning start.

*praying the Drano unclogs the sink*

Not really as complicated as it may sound.

Under your sink (get a bucket) the pipe from your garbage disposal to the T is easily removed. Ummmm, wait...20 years old? Now, I'm not sure. If it is pvc pipe you can easily remove the pipe, dig out the crap and put it back, without it leaking. There should be a pvc piece that is like the equivalent of a screw that tightens and keeps the two pipes together. If you turn it counter clockwise it will come off. Then align them back together and screw it back down. There is an internal seal. I've had to do this a few times when I've crammed too much left over spaghetti down the drain.

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving

Thanks for the advice! Although now both sides of the sink are stopped up... even though only one goes through the disposal. But both go through the U-joint. They took that off once to drain it, but the plug seems to be further down... along with the disposal being broken.

So no sink, and only in the initial stages of cooking. Still 75% more to go.

*sighs*

Guess I get to find out how much a plumber costs the day after Thanksgiving...

I am reading these entries backwards, and am afraid to read the one that comes before this one!!!
