Wow
I've been away for a while. Had a crazy time of it in RL, so I didn't even get around to sending Valentine's Day's cards out. I'll have to send virtual ones to my sweeties.

I've been working like mad. Worked from January 15-Feb 9th straight (that's right, 26 days), then flew out the night of the 9th to Central California (after working a full day), drove to the coast the next morning and planted a headstone and sculpted a grave for my father-in-law. He's at this really interesting cemetery that lets you decorate your plots any way you want. They are small, like 3x3, and you have to buy several if you want a big area, or to put a coffin in. I think it's $1000 per plot, but I'm not sure.

We made it beautiful. A tall, spare marble stone, engraved at the top with a wine glass (which my step-mother-in-law told me was 'some religion's symbol, but it fit Ralph'), with a small statue of a cherub with his face in his hands beside it. There is a large (plastic) wineglass, which she filled with deep red glass stones, and a number of river rocks that we scattered over the top of the grave. We planted a grapevine next to the headstone, then scattered 3 flowering shrubs and 6 small flowering plants around. It was very peaceful, and made me feel close to him.

The next morning we drove back to Central California, caught a plane home, and got here about 9 pm. Had to be up at 6:30 for work, and it's Day 2 of a 12 day stretch now.

Which means I haven't had, and won't, have any relaxing personal downtime until... Saturday, Feb 24th & Sunday, the 25th. That's right... essentially 41 straight days without a real rest. In March, I have the 10th-11th off, and the 31st (because there is a statewide meeting one weekend, and I work 2 others). Finally, in April, I have 5 days off - three full weekends!!! Can't wait...

Where was I going with this? *shakes head groggily* Oh, yeah... I've been away for a while. Haven't had time to catch up with LJ, my e-mail, anything, really. My Comcast Pseudo-TiVo is almost 90% full, and I have no time to watch anything.

And I was at work today, running around (because I had them increase my schedule about 50%, working up to a 100% increase), and saw the Big Guy in the back looking on the computer. Now, he's not very computer literate - it's his wife who is always on there. So I looked to see what he was doing.

He was looking to find our business website.

Which I had told him I would build for him (after someone called and said they could create a web page for $65). I wanted something I could manage, make like I wanted, change... so I told him I could do it. Even had him pay for 3 years of server space, and a domain name. $93.24/year server, $15/year domain, for a grand total charge to his card of almost $300.

That was back in May of 2006.

And I still haven't built the site.

So I went to my hosting service, PowWeb, and discovered that they have yet again increased their package. When I started out, each package was 1 gb storage, 30 gb download per month. It was great for that QaF music website I used to run. For the same price, I now get 30 gb storage, and 3000 gb/month download. For only $5.77/month. If I still had my original 3 packages, I'd have 90 gb storage, and almost a terabyte (900 gb) download per month. Who needs that?!? I'm going to have to finally consolidate my last 2 websites into one. Doesn't make sense to have them both, when the one package has finally gotten so big.

If you're looking for a host, they are good. But before you rush for their "limited time offer"... it's always there. Even if they have a clock counting down until the end of the day... it's still there the next day. Has been ever since I knew them.

So, I'm off to try to build a company website. I think I'll just try to get the yellow pages ad up first, so there is something to point to, and then I'll work on a fancy-schmancy one.
