Is it odd...
... but I've never really lived alone. I mean, I did leave the family home (and had the same room the entire time), but that was to move in with a lover, who I left for someone else, then stayed. I did have a time in grad school where I lived in a 6 room dorm (in a single) for 3 months, but that's it for my pseudo-solo living experiences.

And I wonder... is that so weird? Do most people have at least some time that they live on their own? Or are most of us social creatures?

So I thought I'd post a poll...
Poll #1034020 My living history (lol!)

im 27 and i still unfortunately live w/ my parents. i do pay them each month so i would say that means im paying rent to stay in a house that was built especially for me and my needs..how messed up is that?

Sounds pretty messed up... unless you are severely physically disabled, where they have to pay a lot to make it good for you, and if that's the case, the least the state can do is help then pay for it (but YOU shouldn't have to pay!!!)

However, I don't presume to have any prior knowledge, and am definitely in no position to judge...

And you will break free, eventually, when the time is right. I didn't think I'd ever leave home... my mother did all the housework, took care of my needs, and never questioned me... but one day, I had to go.

yea i am handicapped but im independent. i can do everything for myself and pretty much do. i don't do like major cooking but i can cook enough to keep myself alive.

the only way i see myself getting out of this house is if something happens 2 my parents and i get the house or i can find a man that will marry me and move out. of course the house was built for me so they should have to move out not me.

i know its not right that i have to pay but Social Security says i have to. it totally annoys me.

I am almost 25 and also have never lived alone. I will starting in 2 weeks and it scares me. I picked other, and for me that meant living in a sorority house with anywhere between 1-3 other people to a room. I went from living with my parents to living with a boyfriend to living with parents again, then college I lived in dorms and a sorority, then with my current boyfriend. However, I am going to do the long distance thing for a semester and I will be living alone!

It is so hard. I vacillate between wanting to pig out to comfort myself, and telling myself that I really don't realize I need food that much if no one is there to remind me.

I hope I lose weight during this separation. Or at least don't gain, because I still keep desperately wanting to turn to food for comfort & companionship...

The "other" was a co-op building during my third & fourth years of undergrad & first year of grad school. Had a blast.

Peace

i have been living in my own apartment for 2 weeks at this point, and i do not like it. i am very lonely. (but i think i need to give it a bit more time before giving up on it entirely... heh.)

I've never lived alone...I moved out of my parent's house with a boyfriend, and when that relationship ended I moved right into this one and have been in it ever since. Greg has taken days away from me before (usually to visit his dad out of state) and I've always enjoyed having the house to myself. As long as I have my pets, I think I could live alone without too much problem. I'd probably prefer it, actually.

My "other" was in my own house... I'm close to the opposite of you on this one, though I have had roommates over the years, but I've lived alone more than not most of my adult life. I think it's what works for each person, you know?

I totally agree. I'm settling into it more, and kind of enjoy the freedom. I watch what I want on TV when I want, can eat whatever, sleep whenever.

Not a bad thing... but I can see how I could get really lazy like this. I think I need structure.

Currently I live with my parents, but later this month, I'm going back to college & the dorm life.

For about a week last year, I had a room to myself in the dorms. My old roommate had moved out, & they hadn't stuck me with a new one yet. It was... weird.

I mean, it was nice to have the freedom to come & go as I please without worrying about interrupting anyone else's schedule, but then again, it got pretty lonely. I spent a lot of time online, playing WoW or texting people. It was... kind of sad. =P
