Uh oh...
So I came home from work after a rather stressful, long day, and did my usual routine. Changed out of my work clothes into some lounging attire (ie - sweats), then made a pit stop in the bathroom. When I flushed the toilet, I noticed something sounded a little... off.

What was it?

After the usual draining of the bowl, there was... silence. Which is odd, in itself, because it's an old toilet, and has a little drip that tends to drive me crazy. But it was totally quiet.

Maybe the float didn't go down? I pulled the top off the tank, and stared in. Man, that's a yucky area, especially in a 50 year old toilet. Dank, dark... but everything looked OK. The flapper was up, the float was down... it *should* be working. But no.

I tried lifting the float up, then lowering it. Nothing. Not even my now-missed little drip. Maybe the line in was clogged? But *that* thoroughly? It made no sense.

K went in to fiddle with it. Still nothing. So we tried turning on the bathroom water... then the kitchen water... then ran downstairs to turn off the washer, as we had just (tried) to start it.

No water. Anywhere.

So I call the PUD. Just at they answer, there is a knock at the backdoor. I open it, and see a PUD guy there. "We don't have any water," I tell him, needlessly.

"I'm sorry," he says. "There was a water main break down the hill, and it was flooding a guys yard. We had to throttle back the water mains to keep from washing him away."

"How long until it's fixed?"

"3 am."

Turns out, he is giving himself plenty of time, figures it will be done a bit earlier, but basically they are out on the job until it's dug up, patched, and repressurized. And when that is done? There is a significant risk of trouble with our pipes, because they are old, and the sudden influx of water is likely to knock rust off, making clogs, and (potentially) costing us big $$.

I really wanted to put off repiping the house... but thank God, it broke *down* the hill from us.

At least a coworker who lives about 2 miles from work said I could bring a bag over in the morning and get ready at her house, if I have to...

ETA: OMG, there's a backhoe out there now... idling in front of *our* house...
ETA: Nothing to worry about... it's across the street. Thank God!

Now I'm just trying to get to sleep with heavy construction going on outside my bedroom. The deep vibrations seem to set off some panic-y feelings...

UGH! Are things back to normal now?

Sorry to be so late getting back to you. Yeah, everything is now fine, but we have some water pressure issues as a lot of junk blew through our old lines and slowed them down.

And New Years Eve? I'm pretty sure I got alcohol poisoning. Took 2 days to recover, and I *never* get hangovers. But not being able to eat that day, followed by beer/strong mixed drinks/red wine... ugh. Don't even remember the red wine. Awoke after 5 hours of sleep (6 hours after the last drink) because my head hurt so bad.

Then the next day? Combine anxiety with a biochemical imbalance from the binge the day before, and... bad news.

Back to normal now, though! And hooked up the Wii - it's fun!
