Ah, snow... - Happy's Obsession
or what I do between bouts of Real Life
Ah, snow...
It's a beautiful thing... if you can stay indoors and watch through your window as you snuggle up in a toasty robe in front of a fire. Not so fun if you are trying to drive in it.

I live in a house at the top of the slope that ends in Puget Sound. I'm just over the top of the hill, on the water side. So I left the house 70 minutes before I had to be at work (it usually takes me 35 minutes to get there), and started on my way. Made it out of the driveway, along the front of my house and the neighbors, and then turned to head up the mild rise (2 properties long) that goes to the main road. Made it... 2/3 of the way up? Then stopped. Oh, the wheels were turning, all right, but no traction. I drive a stick shift, and every time I tried to give it a little gas, the wheels just spun, and I actually moved backwards. My least liked neighbor (racist bastard) pulled out of his driveway in his 2WD truck, and couldn't even start up the hill. So he rolled back down to the lower neighbor's drive. I knew he was going to try to get a running start up the hill, and was certain that he would start fishtailing and hit my car, so I backed down the hill toward the curb. Sure enough, he gunned it, just made it by me, then his tires started slipping like crazy. He barely made it to the top of the hill (and by hill, I mean tiny slope).

So I called the boss, who was very understanding. He had cancelled patients at the smaller office this morning (he was working there, and didn't want to risk driving on the ice), and told me he'd see me at the bigger office at 1:30 (we both see patients there this afternoon).

So the good news? Morning off! Bad news? Missed my dentist appointment this AM, and since I used all my vacation time for surgery recovery, no pay this AM.

Oh, well... I guess I'll put on my robe (no fire, though, but I'll turn up the furnace) and watch DVD's until I have to leave at a little after noon!

It's always weird to hear of the West coast having worse weathe than the East.
Be careful out there.

Be careful out there.

Yes. My sister had to come home up I5 last night, and she saw so many accidents she couldn't count them--including two separate incidents of a bus t-boning a truck. Be careful...

At least you get the morning for even more tv catch up time. Do the roads look any better yet?

No, and it's still 27 deg F out, so no thaw. I'm going to try going in again in about 15 minutes... if I don't make it up the hill again, I'll be home for the day. But I gotta try...

Man, you're brave for even attempting it in the ice on a hill.

Not so brave, just a bit crazy, I think. Made it in this afternoon, back in the PM (6:30). Hopefully, will make it to work in the AM tomorrow.

Did you ever get your car un-frozen? Or am I misremembering?

WOW I am envious you live in WA. I love that state. I have visited numerous times and think someday I would love to live there...just the most beautiful place! (well when it's not snowing mind you, or raining to cause landslides)
Anyway just wanted to wave a hi!
