And now, in Jerry Springer territory...
Yesterday at work, two of my staff members were acting furtively. When questioned, they were trying to find out info on a guy the office manager was dating. They went to high school together, reconnected recently through MySpace. He'd come out for a long weekend before Christmas, and was back (as of Sunday) for 3 weeks. They were certain that they'd seen somewhere on MySpace an article that said he was a sexual predator.

Now, the office manager has 2 children. A 13-14 year old girl, and a 7 year old boy. So I used my wiles to find out his entire name from her, and googled him.

And here is the article.

So I showed it to her just before I left work. And driving home I realized... holy shit, if he's on bail, should he even be out of the state? If she confronts him, will she and the kids be in danger? So I called her, but couldn't reach her. I texted her to call me, and left a message. Then I called the police dept. in the original jurisdiction, who told me to call the Sheriff's office in Green County. The person who answered couldn't tell me if he was allowed to leave the state or not. I have to call the court tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, she returned my call. I told her not to say anything tonight, that I was going to check to see if he was allowed to leave the state, because I was worried that he might "act irrationally" if he wasn't. She said she hadn't said anything yet, and would wait until tomorrow to do so. But she sounded freaked out, which makes sense.

Unfortunately, he's staying at her house with her and the kids. And the kids really like him.

I'll call the courthouse tomorrow there to find out if he's here legally. I'll let her know, and then the ball is in her court.

*is worried*

ETA: She called me back, told me that she'd "talked to him", and "not to call anyone else".

I'm worried.

If she doesn't show up for work tomorrow... I'm calling the police.

EEP. I hope everything works out okay. I don't know if I would feel comfortable NOT calling someone else, even if she had told me not to, you know what I mean?

And unfortunately, pedophiles are in many cases extremely charismatic which makes children enjoy their company which is even MORE scary. I hope everything goes okay. Keep us posted if you can.

OMG don't leave us hanging here. So what happened? Did she show up for work? Could he leave the state? What? The suspense is a killer. We all hope that he is now gone and all is good. I like happy endings that is why I hate watching the news. News is usually not happy endings.
